What value do you refuse to compromise?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for October 08, 2007:
Humanity
Not sure if this could be called a "value", but the one thing I simply refuse to compromise is my "humanity". If someone out there has a better (positive) label for it, please let me know.
What I mean by that is that I refuse to allow another person to expect me to act like an obedient animal, on the one hand, or like a programmed machine, on the other hand. I am neither!!! I have found throughout my life that both types of people exist, and many have attempted to pidgeon-hole me into one of the above categories, with consequences they probably didn't expect, nor want.
I am not an animal that will jump up and say "how high did you want me to jump, I'll do it" for any boss, in particular, and any other type of organization, like the government, who might think I should do that. I am not a machine that can be programmed to do certain things at the whim of these above mentioned people and/or organizations, either. I have my own specific calling in life, and I do it from the direction and impetus of my Soul, regardless of whether or not it fits into someone else's reality.
Refusing to compromise hasn't always been easy - it has cost me numerous jobs and, to a large degree, separation from my extended family. Nevertheless, I found it even harder, respecting my values as a human being, to just knuckle under and be whatever someone else thought I should be. So as much as possible, I am vigilant that this does not occur in my life, and the outcome is ultimately that I will do something to break the relationship (sometimes even without realizing it, this is just THAT ingrained in me now), so that this "value" is not compromised.
I do not see this as just a matter of blind stubborness (something i've often been accused of being - stubborn) to a ridiculous ideal. It is necessary for me to have that deep touch with my humanity, so that I can also feel and understand - as an empath - what is happening in the broader, and sometimes unique, situations that are reflected to me in my psychic/spiritual work on the planet. Which is perhaps why I do occasionally end up in situations that challenge my humanity to its core. So words like stubborn, tenacious, bull-headed, single-minded, and occasionally followed by the word(s) (b)(w)itch, have often been ascribed to me. So be it!!! - that is where it is AT for me!!!
That is why, in other places, I am also known as "UnicornLady", because those are the traits ascribed to the Unicorn, in ancient texts. But that's a whole other story (and side to me) I'll be letting people in on in the near future. After all, as a Gemini, it should be expected that having just one persona would be unrealistic. :-)

I'm thinking!
To me, Humanity is having empathy, compassion and kindness for all beings, even our detractors.
You seem to be expressing a sense of Independence or Certainty or Freedom of self expression, if I understand you.
All can be positive Values and all can be expressed positively towards Humanity!
But, maintaining ones Humanity starts with one's self first.
Which is your point I think, which is a good point!
Hi Don….
Great comments…. made me think too… LOL!!! Did I misuse the word perhaps?
Simply put - I want to be treated like I try to treat everyone else (admittedly, I don't always succeed, but I am really trying to do this well) - with respect, caring, understanding and compassion - all of these have an emotional value to me that I consider non-negotiable, giving or getting.
So those who run rough-shod over me (or anyone else out there) are failing to show that they consider us to be “humans” rather than animals or machines. It is a value judgement on their part that reflects their own paucity of spirit. But doing that also robs those on the receiving end of their poor treatment, of their own “humanity” each time this is just allowed to happen.
When the people of the world keep focused on the humanity of the people (rather than the almighty dollar value of what they can do as a worker, or as a chess piece on the board of life), making that value to be non-negotiable, then we will have peace. I'm hoping I live long enough to see it happen.
Blessings,
Gem
Hi Gem
still thinking.
” …then we will have peace.”
As for me, I think that if we wait for peace, it will never come. If we wait for the world to show up the way we want, it will never happen. The world will be whatever it will be.
If I want peace, I must be peaceful now. I don't have to wait for peace. The world is not going to come-through for you or me. I must come-hrough for the world and be the bringer of peace. If I don't there will be no peace in my world.
There is a saying…
“When will I be enlightened?” the student asked the teacher.
“When this moment is enough” was his reply.
This moment is the perfect moment for peace and it will not come from the world.
There is nothing to wait for. I can choose peace in this moment. That is enough. No expections. No strings. I become the the source of peace.
The world is waiting for me.
Peace
Don
Uplifting discourse and true beyond the surface…
Who becomes the peace but the one whom first (without passively knuckling under) sues for it? The great religions of the world agree that the peaceful way is akin to the divine.
Lots of discussion could follow, of course, but not in spite of Illuminati and fanaticism, where lay the beginning questions along the right (righteous) paths of reason?
Waiting for peace seems humankind’s favorite pastime.
A word's response to that which passes for diplomacy and justice?
Any suggestions? (Om…, Gloriosky!, …..)
My most compelling thoughts on humanity (perhaps essence was the word you sought Gem?) are that compromise (as an art) is perhaps overrated, as is the potential “virtue of selfishness”.
Regardles, the answer to the gripping question of “Can't we all just get along?” is (seemingly):ANYONE who expects their colleagues, friends, devotees or any other accomplice, or outright strangers for that matter (not to mention Zaadzters) to take them on faith only is in need of vision and resources and perhaps a clue. Neither can they expect blind obedience to ANY cause, albeit, good bad or ugly.
Surely, a higher truth would is served by reading between the lines of our everyday experiences. Truth is more subtle and nuanced than our conscious minds can readily accessorize! Yet this fact should in no way delay us in beginning to analyze the world according to our particular facility. This forum is an example of a potentially productive path. Our journey is not alone. It is however unique.
Not yet.
It can be disquieting to take in the whole of it. The scope of our collective ignorance can be staggering which gives us - More news from Disturbia Central:

Re-thinking, well, Essence doesn't quite fit either - maybe the word “human-ness” - always did like to invent words, just in case it doesn't already exist….. :)
Thanks for your comments - lots to chew on there…..
