What I would like to learn today.....

(Couldn't get the Question of the Day thing to work, but here it is anyways...)
I would like to know which of my 'friends' insists on adding audio that I cannot seem to find the switch-off for - YOU might think it's cute, but when I'm surfing and trying to read what other people have put down in their blogs, it is damned annoying!!! So for crikey sakes, cease and desist, or at least make the dang turn-off switch HIGHLY visible!!!
I know I've been bounced before (by Sol) for bitching about this, but if that's what it takes to get some peace, well, so be it. Manners manner!!!! Not everyone has the same musical tastes and we should have a choice here of whether or not we listen.

Help

you’ve got a good point and i concur! it doesnt happen enough to warrant me saying anything but i am glad you did!
point noted :
some people do think there a little bit cute at first :-)
But don’t they get buried after a while? I mean if your
not on the same page then they don’t make a sound right?
sorta like a tree doesn’t make a sound in the forest unless
your there to hear it?
Thanks for your support on this Mother Mary. GREATLY appreciated ~~~^v^~~~
Nightphoenix - well, if you don’t have a lot of friends who post blogs, while at the same time some friends post lots of them and include these annoying things, they stay on the page quite a while, and if you go to the second page, and one of those dang things is there, then you’re hit again. So I’m hoping whomever is being so ignorant as to keep imposing these things on us, will take note that they are severely bending one of the conditions of being on the site, and that is to be considerate of others. So I’ve pretty well decided to stop reading the blogs until after the holidays if this kind of behaviour is persisted in - which is a shame, because others deserve to have their blogs read, if they take the time to put them online.
I’m sure it wasn’t done to upset anyone.
Many times these don’t make it to
the summary page –
I’m not sure what you mean by this, Gem. I must not have musical friends:-) Mostly what I experience is a vid is embedded or linked and you have to hit play to activate it. I have seen a few people whose profiles automatically play music. I would find it annoying to be barraged by unwanted tunes though, so I can understand your frustration.
just out of curiosity – do you find people who blog more less interesting?
As in the old saying – those with the most to say should say the least and
those with the least to say should say the most?
Gem, I know this happens all of the time on myspace. The kids embed a song that starts playing when the site loads. I also run into it on some internet sites, and even if they have really great information on them, I wind up closing them because the music gets too annoying. I haven’t run into it on Gaia yet, but if it plays automatically, it is embedded into the blog, and probably has no switch to turn it off. I guess sometimes being “cute” gets taken too far.
The less noise the better. I just sent an e-mail to CBC Newsworld about all the sound effects in the news. All that sharp, zipping sound between news items, like we are so stupid, we don’t know they are now talking about a different subject. Or the throbbing pulsing sounds, like the suspense thing. I am very noise sensitive, startle easily, don’t like clarinet and flute music. Silence is golden.
I can also relate….my dear friends above!
This may be off the beat’n track some what but it’s in correlation to what Mimi said.
If any one has ever clicked on to an early morning fishing show, thinking that the peaceful water and anglers are what your going to hear, is sadly mistaken, on many of these fishing programs.
Sitting in the middle of open waters and then have such over powering loud music playing in the background….so loud that you can’t even hear the water talking, is by no means what fishing should be all about:-))
“V”
Thanks everyone for chiming in - the person who was doing this got the message fairly early on, and deleted the noisy items- sorry I didn’t get back in here sooner to let everyone know.
Answering a couple of quick questions - Janet - it’s not the embedded ones that you can control that annoy me - but the ones that are (I think) probably linked in from other places on the internet, that play as soon as you open the page, and there is no control associated to them.
And Nightphoenix - well, no - I don’t find quantity of blogging has anything to do with it - if it strikes me as appealing as I scan down the page, I generally click it open in a separate window, and those that get opened in a second window are the ones that get read, and often commented on, if I have anything I’d like to say. I have to say that I’m not into doing “Friday Five’s” generally, or those other little contests, nor generally am I interested in reading them.
Hope everyone has a super-dooper weekend!
Cheers! ~~^v^~~
speaking for myself, I prefer written blogs with visuals to videos. Having said that I have come across a few videos I have enjoyed and have also posted some
much love
LOL
You know what, Gem? I annoyed MYSELF with that embedded music. LMAO…
I did it Once, on my birthday blog, but discovered that no matter where I went in my blog, it would play…I found that highly disturbing and once my birthday was over, I deleted the music =)
So I feel you on this one…and there is that thing about not everyone having the same musical taste :-P
Thanks, HummingBird and Ariela - just goes to show that there are a large variety of “how I like it” tastes on the net. I know it can be tricky sometimes to decide what is, or isn’t, appropriate. I guess the best way to think about it - before hitting the “send” button is “How will this interact with the rest of the blogs with which it will be viewed?”
I actually do prefer visuals to video’s myself, but you’d be surprised at the number of people who post pictures that don’t show up because they try to sneak past the programming here, and it just doesn’t work. I’ve given up trying to help them, as even PM’s are either ignored or received rather frostily. Just because it shows up on your computer (if you are still linked in some way to the visual content, it may), doesn’t necessarily mean it shows up online to everyone else. Anyways, that’s getting off-topic, but somewhat another of my “pet-peaves” LOL….!!! (and the old, cranky lady in me just has to come out to play sometimes ;) )
