My Favourite Things!

The Sound of Music (1965) - Song #5 - "My Favorite things"

Take a gander at this song..........

Julie Andrews Turns 69  To commemorate her birthday , actress/vocalist, Julie Andrews made a special appearance at Manhattan 's Radio City Music Hall for the benefit of the AARP. One of the musical numbers she performed was 'My Favourite Things'  from the legendary movie 'Sound Of Music'.

Here are the lyrics she used:  (Sing It!)  - If you sing it, its especially hysterical!!!

Botox and nose drops and needles for knitting, Walkers and  handrails and new dental fittings, Bundles of magazines tied up in string,  These are a few of my favourite things.

Cadillac's and cataracts, hearing aids and glasses, Polident and Fixodent and false teeth in glasses, Pacemakers, golf carts and porches with swings,  These are a few of my favourite things.

When the pipes leak, When the bones creak, When the knees go bad, I simply remember my favourite things, And then I don't feel so bad.

Hot tea and crumpets and corn pads for bunions, No spicy hot food or food cooked with onions, Bathrobes and heating pads and hot meals they bring, These are a few of my favourite things.

Back pain, confused brains and no need for sinnin', Thin bones and fractures and hair that is thinnin',  And we won't mention our short shrunken frames,   When we remember our favourite things.

When the joints ache, When the hips break,  When the eyes grow dim, Then I remember the great life I've had, And then I don't feel so bad.

* * * * * * * * * * * * *

(Ms. Andrews received a standing ovation from the crowd that lasted over four minutes and repeated encores).

This is soooo-ooooo funny, and True.  I know from personal experience. Oy vay!

I loved Sound of Music and have probably seen it 20 times or more.  Julie Andrews had a one in a million voice.  I also enjoyed her performance in Victor Victoria.

really enjoyed starting my morning with this lovely video.  Makes me want to see the movie for the 21st time.  (((hugs))

Mother Mary:  thanks for stopping by and thinking of me, too……..  appreciated.  I will definitely give a listen to Mr. Coltranes version, too.  Yes my heart has been opening up more, and it's feeling better to do that.

Mimi:  Glad this started your morning off nicely.  I haven't seen it quite that many times, maybe 6 or 7 times - but I have all of the sheet music, as well as albums on CD, tape and long-play record - which I've listened to many times across the years.  I've also taped it on VCR so I can watch it again sometime (like to do this around Christmas, for some reason).  So when a friend sent this to me by email, and I sat humming while reading the words, I just cracked right up!

Hugs all around!!! ~ ~ ~ ^v^ ~ ~ ~

Aley and Janet…….  must have posted about the same time I posted my comment above - thanks both for stopping by and adding your own cheerful presences to the party.
I saw the movie at the theatre when I was 18.  I was about 5 months preggers for my son, and my Mom handed me the money for the movie and bus-fare…  I think it's the only movie I ever went to alone…  probably a good thing.  It was exactly what I needed at the time to get me out of the winter-blues at least for a while.  Pretty hard not to feel uplifted after seeing this show, I think!

Mimi you too? I have seen it countless times; can probably say all the words and sing all the songs [okay, I could, at the age of 10 perhaps when I saw it!]..and loved the new words, Gem!!!!

Hi Meenakshi………  So glad you stopped by to enjoy this little switch-up on what is by now a “standard” – this something that has pretty much permeated the consciousness of anyone in the last 40 years or so who loves music, I'd think.
Hugs ~~^v^~~

It was my Father (yeah, lol) who made us all sit and watch this and then it became custom every year. Good Memories. =)

And love the switch-up, lol.
